Both cards currently have hefty welcome offers of 75,000 miles for new cardholders who spend $4,000 on eligible purchases within the first three months.
That’s $1,388 worth of points according to TPG’s valuations, and those points can go a long way when transferred to Capital One’s hotel and airline partners — 50,000-mile transfers to Air France-KLM’s Flying Blue to book business-class awards to Europe, anyone?
Both cards are also well known for offering at least 2 miles per dollar on every purchase. That’s a really great way to earn bonus miles on purchases that usually aren’t part of a bonus-earning category — from paying household bills to settling up that $500 tab at the vet or dentist.
So then, what are the main differences?
The Venture Rewards is a solid mid-tier card with a low annual fee of just $95. It offers some additional perks, like up to a $100 application fee credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck.
The Venture X comes with a higher annual fee of $395 but offers more lucrative travel benefits, like a $300 annual credit for bookings made through Capital One Travel and 10,000 bonus anniversary miles. Plus, you and up to two guests can access 1,300-plus airport lounges worldwide — including Capital One’s popular new lounges. Those with the Venture Rewards card get two included visits in 2024, but that perk will end Jan. 1, 2025, making the Venture X the clear way to go moving forward if you enjoy the lounge network.
