How 2 of the best business cards compare

by Sean Cudahy, Senior Aviation Reporter

If you’re a small-business owner considering a premium business credit card with luxury travel perks, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express and Capital One Venture X Business are two of the most intriguing options out there.

The Business Platinum card comes with the higher annual fee, at $695 (see rates and fees). But it packs a punch, with wide-ranging perks to help you (and your business) save money and travel more comfortably.

Cardmembers can access a host of airport lounges, from Amex’s Centurion lounges to Priority Pass lounges.

Plus, speed through airports with Global Entry or TSA PreCheck — and take advantage of an application fee credit the card offers in the process.

And then there’s the elevated welcome bonus: 150,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $20,000 in the first three months of card membership. It’s an offer TPG values at $3,000.

But make no mistake: You can get plenty of value out of the Venture X Business, too — despite its lower $395 annual fee (see rates and fees).

There’s a steep spending requirement for a hefty welcome offer: If you spend $30,000 in the first three months, you’ll earn 150,000 bonus miles.

As with the Business Platinum, you can transfer those rewards to an impressive list of airline and hotel partners. Plus, each year, receive a $300 annual credit for trips booked through Capital One Travel.

You’ll also enjoy savings on Global Entry and TSA PreCheck thanks to application fee credits — and we can’t forget about Capital One’s growing (and enticing) collection of airport lounges.
