I travel to the Caribbean about once a year. So, I know from experience that if you want to redeem points and miles for flights to the Caribbean, you have plenty of options.
If you have specific dates and routes in mind, head over to your favorite award search tool and see what award rates look like. But if you have more flexibility, see whether you can book a nonstop award flight through Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan (the carrier announced a partnership with Bilt Rewards in March).
After the recent Alaska award chart changes, nonstop partner economy award flights of 700 miles or less within the Americas cost just 4,500 Alaska miles plus taxes and fees. Meanwhile, flights of 701 to 1,400 miles cost 7,500 Alaska miles, and flights of 1,401 to 2,000 miles cost 12,500 Alaska miles.
If you don’t have a stash of Alaska Mileage Plan miles, other programs to consider would be American Airlines or British Airways using Avios or American AAdvantage miles. If you prefer to fly on Delta Air Lines, check Delta SkyMiles or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.
Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards, JetBlue TrueBlue and United Airlines MileagePlus are also worth checking.
You can transfer credit card points to many of the frequent flyer programs if you need miles. The best way to get a good deal on your flight to the Caribbean is to consider all your options, including paid flights.
I usually book an award flight with a program that doesn’t have any change or cancellation fees. Then, I monitor cash and award rates to see if they drop.
