One quick final reminder that if you’ve had applying for the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Card lingering on your to-do list, now is the time to apply. You’ll earn five free award nights (each night valued at up to 50,000 points, though certain hotels have resort fees) after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months.
But, if you’re hoping to take advantage of the offer, you’ll want to act quickly: This limited-time offer ends very soon.
And speaking of some of our top rewards bonuses and currencies, American Express Membership Rewards points are one of our favorite currencies for a reason and we wanted to highlight why.
Yes, you can use them to book travel through the Amex portal, pay with your points directly at checkout with eligible merchants or even redeem them for taxi rides in New York City.
And while those options are nice, that’s not how you get the best value from these points.
Our favorite way to use these points is to transfer them to American Express’ 21 hotel and airline partners. These include airline programs such as Air France-KLM Flying Blue and Iberia Plus. You can increase the value even more if you transfer when one of Amex’s transfer bonuses is available.
This is exactly what one of my TPG co-workers did last year when he was able to transfer 27,000 American Express Membership Rewards points to British Airways (when there was a 30% transfer bonus) to get a total of 34,000 Avios for an outbound business-class seat to Madrid on an “off-peak” travel date.
If you want to ensure you’re getting the most value from your points, check out our guide to maximizing your Membership Rewards points and the list of our favorite Membership Rewards sweet spots. Whether you’re looking for a cheap domestic flight or a way to book your dream trip to a far-flung destination, you’ll find a sweet spot option for your points.
