It’s one of the saddest times of the year: watching your elite status tracker for American Airlines reset to zero. American Airlines AAdvantage elite status is now counted from the first day of March to the last day of February the following year.
That means it’s time to start earning Loyalty Points again for the 2025 status year. If I want to keep my beloved Executive Platinum status, I’ll need to earn a whopping 200,000 Loyalty Points in 2024.
Among the perks at various levels of status on American are free extra-legroom seating, free domestic upgrades and American’s systemwide upgrade certificates that allow you to upgrade from economy to international business class (if you can find the award space).
I’ve found status with AA to be among the most rewarding of any status I’ve pursued, and it’s fun to find new ways to earn Loyalty Points, including via credit card spending.
