On a recent flight to Africa to celebrate my 40th birthday, I was excited to try the Ethiopian Airlines Airbus A350 business-class product, which I booked with Aeroplan points. When I booked the flight, the seat map for the flight showed a spacious and modern 1-2-1 configuration where all seats enjoyed direct aisle access.
Imagine my surprise when I boarded the flight to discover a last-minute equipment swap meant my aircraft had a much older 2-2-2 layout with outdated seats and very little privacy, making for an uncomfortable and disappointing flight. The dinner service taking over three hours of a seven-hour overnight flight didn’t help, either.
