Even as one of TPG’s senior hotel reporters, I wasn’t convinced that I needed a hotel credit card, partly because the nature of my job has me staying at so many different hotel brands throughout the year that I’m never truly chasing top-tier status with just one brand.
But then, a limited-time offer for the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card changed my mind since I would earn five free night awards (worth 50,000 points each) after meeting the spending threshold, plus 17 points per dollar spent at Marriott hotels. Considering I was planning a pricey stay at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kaanapali, I figured I could maximize my return on the card.
I ended up using my five free night certificates for various stays, including a truly amazing redemption for three nights on a last-minute trip to Paris for New Year’s Eve.
Now, the card has a solid place in my wallet. I love that I can earn 3 points per dollar on the first $6,000 spent in combined purchases at grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants each year. The card also comes with 15 elite night credits to help reach elite status more quickly — maybe this will finally be the year I reach Platinum Elite.
If you’ve been on the fence like I was, let me tell you that the card, which only carries a $95 yearly membership fee, currently has a limited-time offer similar to the one that enticed me.
Right now, you can earn five free night awards (each night valued at up to 50,000 points, and certain hotels have resort fees) after spending $5,000 on purchases in your first three months from account opening with the Bonvoy Boundless.
One last thing that’s a nice surprise each year is the annual 35,000-point award stay that pops up on account renewal, meaning one more night covered for another trip down the line. That night alone makes up the $95 annual fee, in my eyes.
