There’s now another increased card bonus out as Alaska Airlines and Bank of America recently launched a new offer on the Alaska Airlines Visa® credit card. Even if you don’t fly Alaska Airlines often, don’t tune this out.
New applicants for the Alaska Airlines Visa can now earn 70,000 bonus miles plus Alaska’s Companion Fare from $122 ($99 fare plus taxes and fees from $23) after spending $3,000 or more on purchases within the first 90 days from account opening.
This is a good way to earn a chunk of Alaska miles. And Alaska’s Companion Fare can come in handy — especially since you can use it for most Alaska-operated economy tickets, including one-way, round-trip and multicity routings.
Last May, my husband and I used the Alaska Companion Fare to fly from Los Angeles to Seattle and then from Seattle to Anchorage, Alaska, via Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Juneau, Yakutat and Cordova for $580 on the Alaska Milk Run. But, of course, you can also use the Companion Fare for much simpler trips — domestic flights can be found for under 5,000 miles on some routes.
And although Alaska miles have faced a few devaluations over the last few years, they’re still valuable for some trips. For example, you can redeem Alaska miles to fly on Fiji Airways from San Francisco to Sydney with a stopover for as long as you want in Fiji. Economy award availability is relatively easy to find for 40,000 miles plus about $121 in taxes and fees one-way. And while business class on that route is much more limited, if you can find it, it’s yours for just 55,000 Alaska miles plus taxes and fees.
