Don’t snooze on the Swift effect for European hotels
by Andrew Kunesh, Senior Reporter, Cards & Loyalty
Now is not the time to wait around to see if rates get any better for European hotels next summer. Taylor Swift is crossing the Atlantic, and the U.S. is an indicator of how high hotel rates can go when the queen of the Swifties is in town.
Hotel data provider STR notes Edinburgh hotels are already 70% booked for the nights Swift performs at the city’s Murrayfield Stadium. Occupancy rates already exceed 50% on the tour dates of other U.K. cities like Cardiff, Wales, on June 18 and Liverpool, England, on June 13 and 14. Occupancy rates are approaching 50% in Dublin for all three nights of Swift’s tour stop at the Irish capital’s Aviva Stadium.
Nightly rates are pricey, too. Most Marriott- and Hilton-affiliated hotels in popular neighborhoods in Paris for Swift’s opening night at Paris La Defense Arena on May 9 start at $300 and climb higher. Rates at Hyatt-affiliated hotels start at $400 in central London and quickly move higher on the dates Swift performs at Wembley Stadium.
To us, that sounds like a prime opportunity to think about redeeming award nights or credit card rewards to make your TSwift getaway more affordable. After all, you can use those savings on purchases at the merch stand!
That’s all from me for today. I’ll catch y’all tomorrow.
