It’s Travel Tuesday, so head over to our travel deals page to see whether there are any new deals you want to book. But we should also discuss how you can create your own deals for the better part of two years with the Southwest Companion Pass.
Despite having top-tier AAdvantage Executive Platinum status with American Airlines, I often find myself on Southwest Airlines flights when traveling domestically due to the value my husband and I get from his Southwest Companion Pass.
The Southwest Companion Pass lets us pay cash or redeem points for my husband’s fare, and then we only need to pay the taxes and fees (which are $5.60 for most domestic flights) for me to join him on Southwest flights.
To earn a Southwest Companion Pass through the end of the next calendar year, you must fly 100 qualifying one-way flights or earn 135,000 qualifying points within a calendar year. However, Southwest Rapid Rewards credit card points — including sign-up bonuses — count toward the Companion Pass.
Now is the perfect time to get a new Southwest credit card if you want to earn a Companion Pass in 2024 that will be valid through the end of 2025. To learn more, check out the following stories:
