At TPG, I write most frequently about the Trusted Traveler programs, which U.S. Customs and Border Protection offers to preapproved travelers they’ve deemed low-risk.
TSA PreCheck allows users to skip the regular Transportation Security Administration line at U.S. airports with a dedicated PreCheck-only lane, in which users do not have to remove their shoes, laptop, liquids, belt or light jacket. Per the TSA, 99% of PreCheck passengers pass through security in 10 minutes or less.
The second program, Global Entry, is the most popular among travelers, especially frequent international travelers, as it provides expedited clearance through automated kiosks at more than 75 airports upon arrival in the U.S. from abroad.
Global Entry costs $100 for five years but also includes a membership to TSA PreCheck and its aforementioned benefits.
