We’re halfway through August — can you believe it? Before we know it, Thanksgiving will be here. Then Christmas and New Year’s.
It may seem too early to think about that, but not if you still need to book flights for holiday travel.
This is the year to buy those tickets extra early, reports TPG’s Sean Cudahy. Airlines have passed along the cost of rising fuel prices throughout much of 2026. And with little pushback from flyers, airlines have no real incentive to lure customers with fare sales.

Airfares were also in the news in Washington, where the Trump Administration is considering a change to how airlines are required to display airfares. Regardless of how the situation shakes out, changes are definitely coming to the airports serving the nation’s capital, including a sweeping overhaul to Dulles International Airport (IAD).
