The holiday this Monday — coupled with the weekend that precedes it — is widely viewed as the unofficial start of summer in the U.S. Many Americans will head to the beach, the mountains — or perhaps just celebrate with a family barbecue in their own backyard. It also is when the summer travel season begins in earnest, and huge crowds are expected at airports this weekend around the holiday.
It’s that air traffic control situation that’s become a national story. And it’s back in the headlines this week after the Federal Aviation Administration ordered airlines to temporarily cut flights there as a way to help get operations back on track.
