United Being Dragged to US House Hearing on Bumpgate

The fallout continues for United in the wake of Flight 3411. While the airline won't fire anyone for the incident, United is facing a potentially costly lawsuit from Dr. David Dao and is working on a full investigation on the incident. The report — and policy changes it may contain — is expected April 30.

But it's not just the courts and the court of public opinion that United is still facing potential backlash from. United confirmed yesterday that it's now being required to testify at an upcoming US House Transportation Committee hearing on commercial airline consumer issues.

A United spokesperson told Reuters that the airline looked "forward to meeting with the committee and sharing with them the comprehensive review and the customer-focused actions we will communicate next week." Neither United or the spokesperson for the House committee have disclosed who has been called to testify in front of the committee or the date of the hearing.

This new House committee hearing is in addition to the outstanding inquiries from the US Senate Commerce Committee. United and the Chicago Department of Aviation — which employs the officers that physically dragged Dr. Dao off the plane — are both required to respond to a list of questions by today's deadline.
