Hyatt’s losing Tommie Hollywood to Marriott. Is Thompson Hollywood next?
While Hyatt has been on a lifestyle hotel expansion spree in the last few years, one of its better-known properties is leaving the World of Hyatt orbit for Marriott Bonvoy.
It appears another could soon follow.
The 212-room Tommie Hollywood (a sister brand to Thompson Hotels and a part of JdV by Hyatt) will ditch the Hyatt affiliation later this month and link up with Marriott. The transformation will result in a new name for the hotel: Hollywood Volume, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel.
"Effective October 28, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. local time, Tommie Hollywood will no longer be operated as a Hyatt-branded hotel or affiliated with Hyatt," Beth Outlaw, Tommie Hollywood's general manager, said in a statement to TPG. "We are working with the hotel owner to ensure a smooth transition for guests and colleagues."
Outlaw was scant on details and only further noted that the hotel will "transition to a hotel brand outside of the Hyatt portfolio" — but you can already find the property on the Marriott website. There's also a lot of chatter on travel forums (as reported by One Mile at a Time) that the neighboring 190-room Thompson Hollywood is also likely to decamp to Marriott and join the Autograph Collection.
A Hyatt spokesperson declined to comment on the rumors and told TPG, "We do not have news to share at this time regarding Thompson Hollywood, and it remains business as usual at the hotel."
If you have an upcoming paid stay or World of Hyatt award stay at Tommie Hollywood from Oct. 29 onward, Outlaw says to call Hyatt's Global Property & Guest Services line at 1-888-848-9496 for U.S. guests or 1-402-952-1131 for guests outside the U.S. She notes the hotel is expected to honor all paid reservations.
Outlaw added that guests may contact their booking provider for information on their policies and assistance for bookings made via online travel agents or other third parties. World of Hyatt members with award stays should contact Global Property & Guest Services for additional details.
World of Hyatt members won't be completely devoid of options in Hollywood moving forward, as the hotel giant's Dream Hollywood is one block away from the Tommie/Thompson complex. Marriott Bonvoy members will now have a variety of options, with the Tommie-turned-Hollywood Volume being mere blocks from the recently refurbished W Hollywood.
Tommie Hollywood's closing means the Tommie sub-brand within JdV by Hyatt now only exists in Austin.
