Remember, you must find award availability on the KrisFlyer website. Promo awards may not be available on select dates — even ones not listed as blackout dates. When you search, you’ll see the discounted awards listed as “promo” if available.
Additionally, all the flights on your itinerary must qualify for the promotion to access the discounted pricing.
Note that the transferred rewards may take up to 24 hours (or longer for Marriott transfers) to hit your KrisFlyer account. If they don’t immediately appear, consider calling KrisFlyer to hold award seats until the miles post. Doing so will lock in your award seats so you won’t have to worry about the availability disappearing. KrisFlyer generally charges a service fee of $25 or 2,500 miles to hold award seats.
When booking your flight, consider using one of the following cards to pay any taxes and fees to further maximize your purchase:
The Platinum Card® from American Express: Earn 5 points per dollar spent on airfare booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel (on up to $500,000 spent per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar).
American Express® Gold Card: Earn 3 points per dollar spent on airfare booked directly with the airline, on amextravel.com or through the Amex Travel App™
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees): Earn 2 points per dollar spent on travel.
Bottom line
If you’ve been eyeing a trip to Europe, Tokyo or Singapore, now’s the time to act. Singapore KrisFlyer is offering a rare 40% discount on select economy and premium economy award redemptions — but only if you book by 11:59 a.m. EDT on Aug. 17. That’s when the best deals vanish, and the discount drops to 30% for the rest of the month. With one-way awards starting at just 15,000 miles plus taxes and fees, seats will go fast.
