The very first Park Hyatt – Chicago – is again accepting reservations after major overhaul
Editor's note: This post has been updated with new information on the hotel's reopening.
Park Hyatt Chicago, the very first hotel to hold the name Park Hyatt, is again accepting reservations after undergoing an extensive $60 million renovation. The property has been refurbishing all 198 guest rooms and suites over the past several months.
Potentially due to reduced demand from COVID-19, the property chose to close its doors during the renovation as opposed to renovating individual guest room floors while continuing operations.

While the Park Hyatt Chicago opened its doors in 1980, the building that houses it today, the Park Tower, was completed in 2000. Hyatt says the redesign is based, in part, on the colors and mood of the neighboring Water Tower Park.
Sitting right on Michigan Avenue at the heart of The Magnificent Mile, the hotel has views of Lake Michigan. The property remains a Category 6 redemption in the World of Hyatt program.

That means a free night in a standard room would range between 21,000 and 29,000 points now that Hyatt has instituted peak and off-peak pricing.
For July and August, we're mostly seeing 25,000 - 29,000 World of Hyatt points or cash rates between $565 and $715 a night for entry-level rooms.

"We could not be more excited to welcome guests back to the newly transformed hotel, said Park Hyatt Chicago General Manager Rike Erdbrink in a statement, continuing that it will, "redefine the quintessential sophistication of Park Hyatt Chicago and provide an opulent home-away-from-home experience for locals and worldly travelers."
The new hotel will have 20 different room types including 36 suites. The hotel said it would also have, "reimagined guestrooms, thoughtful enhancements to the lobby and The Library experience, a refreshed curated art program, as well as updates to the food and beverage programs and destination spa."
Park Hyatt is Hyatt's luxury brand with almost 50 properties worldwide. The hotels are generally on par with JW Marriott, with some locations such as Park Hyatt Sydney and Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome, rivaling Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons. The brand is known for understated luxury in quiet, upscale settings. Many of the Park Hyatt properties are well-located in city centers.

The location of this property is unparalleled if you want to have access to the heart of Chicago. It's a short walk to some of the best restaurants and shopping in the city as well as Lake Shore Drive, with Navy Pier just beyond that. The fact that the Chicago Loop stops just a couple of blocks away means you can also easily get to the hotel from both Chicago airports either by car or train.

The existing room layout at Park Hyatt Chicago is spacious and sensible. Many rooms have a sliding wall between the bathroom and bedroom. The rooms that face Michigan Avenue have wall-to-wall windows which let in plenty of natural light. After over two decades with the existing design, updated technology and finishes should make this an even more desirable location for folks who enjoy luxury in a downtown setting.
