One of Panama’s most exciting Hyatts just opened a new charming countryside spa retreat
When Hyatt opened Hotel La Compania in one of Panama City's oldest neighborhoods a few years back, the "living museum," as the hotel touted itself, received rave reviews. A charming blend of history and heritage with all the conveniences and perks of a contemporary lifestyle hotel, La Compania Hotels & Resorts, alongside Hyatt, built something special.
Now, the duo is back for a second Panamanian hotel: a Tuscan-inspired countryside resort just 50 miles from the bustling capital city in El Valle de Anton.
Part of Hyatt's Unbound Collection of "independent, one-of-a-kind hotels," Hotel La Compania del Valle will, once fully opened, consist of 70 guest rooms and suites. In the current opening phase, 40 rooms are available to book, with the rest of the resort set to be ready by May 2025.
Spread across four wings, those rooms and suites come in various shapes and sizes, though all include private balconies or terraces, modern four-poster beds, 55-inch TVs, Molton Brown bath products and, most importantly, mountain-view rooms that have picture-perfect outlooks of the surrounding landscapes. (In fact, the town and hotel are found in the center of an extinct volcanic crater, adding to the overall allure of the property.)
In May, the 18,000-square-foot Elysium Spa will open, creating a wellness haven for travelers looking to relax in the countryside. The spa will offer state-of-the-art treatments — and even chocolate- and wine-based therapies. Guests can also enjoy hiking, e-biking, horseback riding, tennis and pickleball or exploring the hotel's 200-piece sculpture park. Just be sure to make time for the short 2-mile journey into the town of El Valle de Anton to explore, shop and dine.
Food at the hotel is centered around three themes — fire, earth and wind — and is led by executive chef Patrice Jaumon. The restaurants include Terra, a Mediterranean and vegetarian establishment set to open March 15; Fuego, a high-end, open-flame venue scheduled to open March 2; and Tempo, an international eatery open throughout the day.
