Tired of planes with jet engines? Want to know the joy of powerless flight? Then you'll enjoy this installment of crazy aviation videos showing a glider soaring over the open green fields of Germany.

The glider is a DFS SG 38 Schulgleiter. Introduced in 1938 and no longer in production, the single seat glider played a critical role training fighter pilots in World War 2. The frame is made out of wood and covered with fabric to reinforce the structure. The fabric helps keep the plane's weight down, enabling it to stay airborne for longer.

The SG 38 takes to the sky via a tow plane and reaches a cruising altitude of what seems to be about 1,000 feet. What comes next is pure joy from the pilot, who has a huge grin and goes handsfree on the joystick. After several minutes in the air, the glider comes back to earth with a quick and gentle landing.
