A flight you might come across is the below nonstop American flight from MIA to NAS in mid-January for less than $200 round-trip. The fare is for American Airlines' Basic Economy, which includes one free carry-on. If you wanted to choose your seat, you'd have to upgrade to their Main Cabin for $80 more.

Upgrading to the next highest class would also allow you to change your flight for free or receive a voucher for future travel in the case of a cancellation.

A flight over MLK Weekend for United Basic Economy would cost you $263 on United if you flew from EWR on Friday, Jan. 14. Just know that unlike the above flight in the same class on American, United does not allow travelers in this class to carry on a full-sized bag but limits you to one smaller personal item.

You could also consider paying $54 to get that free carry-on and a seat in Economy for $317 total.

The coldest month of the year in Boston is January, with an average overnight temperature of a chilly 22.1 degrees Fahrenheit. Booking a flight to the Bahamas at any point during the year is an enticing proposition but more so when the winter blues are upon us. For $321, Bostonians can book a Delta Basic Economy ticket with a free carry-on and thaw out in paradise over a long weekend in January.

The Bahamas is requiring fully vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers to obtain a negative COVID-19 test (either a Rapid Antigen Test or PCR), taken no more than five days prior to the date of arrival to the Bahamas and apply for a Bahamas Health Travel Visa at travel.gov.bs.
