Delta Air Lines is making some changes to how it rewards its top flyers.

The Atlanta-based carrier just rolled out an overhauled Million Miler rewards program, which includes a new gift selection and other enhancements to the welcome experience.

Within 24 hours of achieving a new Million Miler threshold, you'll now receive a celebratory email from Delta, congratulating you on your achievement and directing you to the revamped gift website, which is available at deltamillionmiler.com.

After entering your SkyMiles number and password, you'll see a new personalized menu with a welcome message that also displays the available gift options. These choices vary based on your Million Miler tier, and you'll only be able to select one pick from the gift menu.

Delta declined to share the new menu of gift choices, but before the pandemic, the catalog included things like Tiffany jewelry or Tumi travel bags. In early 2020, Delta replaced the designer-branded gifts with an electronic gift card and personalized gift box that included a paperweight trophy to celebrate your accomplishment. (Several of these welcome kits are now being resold on eBay for around $200 each.)

Delta Million Miler Jonathan Jacobs shared the revamped gift choices on his Twitter page. The new picks include a personalized wine set, customized backpack and a collection of Delta heritage logos — a big upgrade from the paperweights that were handed out during the pandemic.

If you hit a new Million Miler threshold in 2022, you are automatically eligible to access the new gift site through Dec. 31, 2022, so be sure to check it out before your pick expires.

After selecting your gift, you'll now receive a confirmation email, which will include shipment information with tracking numbers — another upgrade from before the pandemic.

And, to ensure that every Million Miler receives a gift, you'll automatically be sent one if you don't make a selection within 90 days of achieving your new status tier.

In a statement confirming the changes, carrier spokesperson Drake Castaneda shared that "reaching Million Miler Status is no small feat, and we're always looking for new ways to reward and celebrate some of our most loyal Members. We recently revamped our Million Miler Gift program with refreshed gift selection as part of our ongoing efforts to delight our Million Milers."

Million Miler status is awarded to those who earn at least one million Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) over their lifetime. This can come from flying Delta or its partners and crediting those flights to your SkyMiles account.

You can view your total number of lifetime MQMs on your SkyMiles account by going to the My SkyMiles page. Clicking "View Million Miler Qualifications" will display your totals.

As you progress from 1 million to 6 million lifetime MQMs (and beyond) with Delta, you'll unlock different gifts, along with complimentary Medallion status in the elite program for the rest of your life — without needing to requalify each year.

The full tier-by-tier breakdown is below:

  • One million lifetimes MQMs: Silver Medallion.
  • Two million lifetimes MQMs: Gold Medallion.
  • Three million lifetimes MQMs: Gold Medallion.
  • Four million lifetimes MQMs: Platinum Medallion.
  • Five million lifetimes MQMs: Platinum Medallion.
  • Six million lifetimes MQMs and beyond: Diamond Medallion.

This is the latest change Delta has recently made to its Million Miler program. Last year, the carrier added the ability for its most frequent flyers to earn lifetime Diamond status when crossing the 6 million lifetime MQM threshold.

Plus, Delta updated its complimentary upgrade hierarchy, giving those with million miler status higher priority over other elites.

While achieving Million Miler status may sound impossible on paper, Delta is unique in that it tracks your status based on lifetime MQMs earned. Several of our top recommended Delta cobranded credit cards award extra MQMs as part of a welcome bonus, and you can also earn bonus MQMs through spending.

With the right card strategy and plenty of Delta flights, earning Million Miler status may be more achievable than you originally thought.
