Why you should apply now
Demand for summer travel is already growing, but having a solid stash of airline miles can help offset one of the biggest costs of a trip. The bonus miles you can earn from these welcome offers can be used not just on Delta-operated flights but across the carrier's worldwide partners. And with Delta's flexible policies for changing or canceling award tickets — along with free standby options for all passengers — using your miles for your next trip gives you a ton of flexibility.
The cards can also help make your actual trip less costly and more enjoyable. Each one allows you (and up to eight companions on your reservation) to check your first bag free on Delta flights booked with your card, and you'll enjoy Main Cabin 1 priority boarding. The Delta Reserve Card will even get you Sky Club access before your flight.
All this means that adding one of these cards to your wallet now could greatly enhance your summer travels.

New cards made of 70% reclaimed plastic
Early this year, Delta announced that it would be improving its customer experience with sustainability in mind. And now, American Express is offering Delta credit cards that are made from 70% reclaimed plastic to accompany these new welcome offers.
Each card made in this fashion is a certified carbon-neutral product created through a process that results in 89% less greenhouse gas emissions and 85% less water consumption than that used to create a plastic credit card.
Both companies have made commitments to net-zero carbon emissions — so adding one of these cards to your wallet is something you can feel good about (in addition to earning you a bunch of miles).
Speaking of which ...
Best ways to redeem Delta SkyMiles
Once you've earned all those miles, you'll want to redeem them for the most value possible. Delta often has flash sales on award tickets, but it also partners with airlines around the world that can unlock even more destinations.
Here are some potential ways to maximize your your SkyMiles redemptions:
- Fly to South America with LATAM.
- Fly to France (or even the Caribbean) with Air France
- Fly between the U.S. and Canada on WestJet.
