Today only, Virgin America is offering a buy one get one free promo on tickets to/from Newark. Here is the link to the promo page. To be eligible, you must purchase your ticket by 11:59pm PST for travel now through 11:59pm PST on November 26 (sorry, no Thanksgiving travel) and use the promo code VXFOR2.

This offer is valid for non-refundable Main Cabin tickets only. This offer is valid only for U.S. domestic travel to/from EWR. Offer is not valid for any other routes or multi-city itineraries. Travel must occur between November 6, 2013 and November 26, 2013. Discount is not valid for travel on Sundays.

Tickets require 3-day advance purchase. Additional blackout dates are 11/11/13, 11/22/13, and 11/23/13.

Promo code may be used only towards newly booked travel and may not be applied to prior bookings. Promo code discount will be deducted off of base fare.

The promo code may only be used for bookings made on virginamerica.com and is only valid on itineraries of exactly 2 guests - so if you want to take 4 people for the price of 2, you'll have to make 2 separate reservations. Offer is not transferable and cannot be combined with any other offers. Seats are limited, subject to availability, and may not be available on all flights. If travel is changed or cancelled, promo code discount will become invalid.

Just to test it out, I priced out a sample itinerary from SFO-EWR in November:

The total for 2 passengers came to $502 - or about $251 per person, not bad.

This is a pretty aggressive promotion aimed squarely at beefing up Virgin's presence at Newark, and flyers can reap the benefits. While it's still fairly restrictive in terms of dates, if you do have some transcontinental Virgin travel coming up and can fly in and out of Newark you might as well get some half-price tickets out of it.

Why We Chose It

There’s a lot to love about the Amex Gold. It’s a fan favorite thanks to its fantastic bonus-earning rates at restaurants worldwide and at U.S. supermarkets. If you’re hitting the skies soon, you’ll also earn bonus Membership Rewards points on travel. Paired with up to $120 in Uber Cash annually (for U.S. Uber rides or Uber Eats orders, card must be added to Uber app and you can redeem with any Amex card), up to $120 in annual dining statement credits to be used with eligible partners, an up to $84 Dunkin’ credit each year at U.S. Dunkin Donuts and an up to $100 Resy credit annually, there’s no reason that foodies shouldn’t add the Amex Gold to their wallet.
