The cards we feature here are from partners who compensate us when you are approved through our site, and this may impact how or where these products appear. American Express frequently runs promotions through its social media outlets (including Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare, and TripAdvisor). These promotions, known collectively as Amex Sync, typically involve statement credits for purchases made at various retailers and other businesses with an eligible Amex card, and require only an active Facebook or Twitter account and a few clicks to sign up.

Amex is currently offering $50 off of $250 spent at Hilton Hotels and Resorts, and a free night plus $25 hotel credit when you stay at participating Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. Al the details are spelled out on the promotion pages, but read on for the basics.

Get $50 when you spend $250 at Hilton Hotels and Resorts, like the Hilton Waikola Village.

Hilton

Get a one time $50 statement credit by using your connected Amex card to make a single purchase of $250+ on all charges to your room, including your room rate, when you pay for your stay with Hilton Hotels and Resorts in the US and Puerto Rico between June 2, 2014 and September 2, 2014.

  • Offer valid at Hilton Hotels and Resorts brand only; other brands in the Hilton portfolio are excluded.
  • Must book directly with Hilton Hotels and Resorts.
  • Offer not valid for stays that end before or after the promotion start and end dates.
  • Enrollment limited; Limit one statement credit per American Express Card.

This promotion won't make you rich, but $50 is $50, and the effort needed to sign up is virtually nil. Furthermore, Amex Sync users can connect a unique American Express card to each social media platform, so you could stretch this deal further by signing up four times with four different cards, and reap quadruple the discount. Note that only credit cards issued by American Express qualify, not Amex branded cards issued by other banks.

If you have plans to visit a property in the Hilton Hotels and Resorts portfolio, this promotion is a no-brainer. To sign up, just follow the registration instructions on your social media platform(s) of choice.

Stay at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for 3 nights, and get a 4th night free when you pay with your synced Amex card.

Fairmont

Get a comp night and a $25 hotel credit at participating Fairmont Hotels and Resorts when you book by December 31, 2014 using promo code PMXX. Requires a minimum stay of 3-6 consecutive nights depending on the property (see the list of participating properties for respective stay requirements).

  • Valid for stays through March 31, 2015.
  • Advanced reservations required.
  • Blackout dates may apply, and vary by property.

The wording in the Fairmont promotion is mildly deceptive, making it seem less enticing than it actually is. The free night is included in the number of required nights for each property, so if you stay at a property that requires a three night stay, you'll pay for the first two nights and get the third one free. The $25 hotel credit is dwarfed by the free night, but makes the deal even sweeter.

Fairmont Hotels don't get a lot of ink on this blog, but the brand features many distinguished properties where a free night would be more than welcome. This promotion could be an absolute steal if combined with the bonus from the Fairmont Visa Signature credit card from Chase, which offers two complimentary nights plus breakfast for two at any Fairmont property after you spend $3,000 within the first 3 months of account opening.

If you

If you aren't already familiar with Amex Sync, it's worth checking out. Promotions range from forgettable to fantastic, and again require minimal effort. Deals come and go, and new ones are added regularly, so even if you've already peered down this particular points and miles rabbit hole, it's worth another look.
