Transfer Membership Rewards points: American Express partners with award search tool Point.me
The cards we feature here are from partners who compensate us when you are approved through our site, and this may impact how or where these products appear. We don’t cover all available credit cards, but our analysis, reviews, and opinions are entirely from our editorial team. Terms apply to the offers listed on this page. Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information.

If you have a stash of American Express Membership Rewards points but aren't sure how to best use them, a new partnership between American Express and Point.me may help.

Point.me is a popular award flight search tool. An annual Point.me membership typically starts at $129, and a daypass costs $5, but eligible American Express cardmembers can now use a complimentary version that will show award flight options bookable through Membership Rewards transfer partners.

Eligible cardmembers can access the new Point.me for Membership Rewards points at amex.point.me. Once there, click "Log in" and enter the username and password that you use to log on to your American Express online account. If your account is eligible, you must accept the terms of service and privacy policy before accessing the Point.me for Membership Rewards Points landing page.

Once here, you can use Point.me for Membership Rewards Points, similarly to how you would typically use Point.me. The primary difference is that Point.me for Membership Rewards Points only displays results for loyalty programs to which you can transfer Amex Membership Rewards points.

The search functionality wasn't live when I wrote this news under embargo. But, eligible cardmembers should now be able to log in and complete searches using Point.me for Membership Rewards Points. Just as with the standard Point.me, eligible cardmembers can read detailed instructions and watch a video on how to book their award with the program of their choice on the Point.me website.

The CEO of Point.me, Adam Morvitz, had the following to say about the new partnership via a press release:

We're ecstatic to be connecting with American Express Card Members through 'Point.me for Membership Rewards® points'. This partnership provides American Express Card Members with an easy way to search and compare the incredible airline loyalty transfer options offered through their Membership Rewards® Program. It will help them find the best way to travel – from first and business class seats to dream trips for the entire family.

Meanwhile, the executive vice president of U.S. consumer product management and lending at American Express, Anthony Cirri, was quoted as follows in the press release:

Whether traveling for business or planning a family vacation, we hope to create an easier, streamlined way for Card Members to plan their travels and make the most of their Membership.

It's great to see another program with transferable currency partner with Point.me to make award searches easier for its members. But between the new Point.me for Membership Rewards Points and the existing Bilt Rewards Point.me integration, you may wonder whether you still need a Point.me membership or daypasses.

If you only have Amex Membership Rewards points and Bilt Rewards points, you likely won't need a membership or daypasses anymore (unless you enjoy seeing the options bookable with both currencies in one search). If you also have other transferable points — such as Citi ThankYou Rewards points and Chase Ultimate Rewards points — it's likely still worth carrying an annual Point.me membership or buying daypasses as needed to see all your options in one place.
