Aeroplan members, check your accounts as it appears that Air Canada's loyalty program is running a flash sale over the next couple of days, and it can potentially save you money on your next flight.

How does the sale work, and is it worth it? Let's take a look.

From now through July 17, Aeroplan's flash sale is offering up to a 100% bonus on purchased points.

This promotion may be targeted, so some members may see a different offer. We've seen a tiered bonus depending on how many points you buy:

  • 5,000 to 29,000 points: 55% bonus
  • 30,000 to 79,000 points: 75% bonus
  • 80,000 to 500,000 points: 100% bonus

Aeroplan usually limits purchases to 250,000 points (before the bonus) per transaction, but this limit has been bumped up to 500,000 points for this sale. So, in theory, you could nab a total of a million points during this sale — though that would cost nearly $14,000.

The maximum 100% bonus essentially halves the cost per point, bringing it down to about 1.88 Canadian cents (1.37 U.S. cents) each. And it's worth noting that if you pay with a U.S. credit card and U.S. billing address, you won't have to pay sales tax.

This sale ends July 17, so you only have a couple of days to consider your travel plans and decide whether purchasing points makes sense. To buy Aeroplan points, head to this page and log in to your account.

Should I buy Aeroplan points?

The 100% bonus lowers the purchase price to under 1.4 cents per Aeroplan point, which just happens to be TPG's July 2025 valuation, making this a solid deal. However, since points and miles aren't a great long-term investment, we don't recommend buying points simply to stockpile them.

You're better off purchasing points if you have an Aeroplan redemption in mind and not enough points to book it. Or, if you were planning to purchase a ticket with cash, you may be able to save money with this sale.

For example, this flight from Denver International Airport (DEN) to Munich Airport (MUC) costs only 70,000 Aeroplan points and CA$78 ($57) in business class.

During this flash sale, you could purchase a total of 70,000 points (40,000 points with a 75% bonus) for $1,120. If you paid with cash, the same flight would set you back over $7,000.

Which credit card should I use to buy Aeroplan points?

As with most points purchases, the transaction won't code as travel because it will be processed by Points.com rather than Air Canada. So, you won't earn bonus rewards if you pay with a card that earns extra points on travel or airfare.

Instead, we recommend using one of the best cards for everyday spending. And since the purchase will be charged in Canadian dollars, be sure to use a card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees.

Bottom line

Promotions on buying points aren't always a good deal, but this one is worth considering. Despite the program's move to dynamic pricing for some redemptions, Aeroplan still has some valuable sweet spots. Do the math to see if it makes sense to buy the points you need for your next redemption — and make your purchase by July 17 to take advantage of this sale.
