Mmm ... coffee. Wouldn't you love some bonus points on that morning wake-up or afternoon buzz you're buying today?

Now through Aug. 31, you can earn up to 10 points per dollar on Starbucks purchases with eligible Chase credit cards. Here's a look at the promotion and which cards are eligible for bonuses.

Chase is offering another "My Bonus" spending promotion for eligible cardholders. We've previously seen this offer for supermarkets, gas stations and other categories. This time, the promotion is for spending at Starbucks.

The promotion runs through Aug. 31 and is valid on up to $500 of spending at Starbucks with your eligible card. Not every card earns the same rate, however.

You can earn 10 points per dollar by using these cards:

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve.
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred Card.
  • Activate here for Sapphire cards.

You can earn 5% back by using these cards:

  • Chase Freedom Flex.
  • Chase Freedom Unlimited.
  • Activate here for Freedom cards.

Remember that you can turn your cash back rewards into Ultimate Rewards if you combine them with an eligible card.

How to activate this promotion

Activating the offer is simple enough. Go to this link if you're a Sapphire Reserve or Sapphire Preferred cardholder. For Freedom Flex and Freedom Unlimited cardholders, activate the offer using this link.

On the promotion page, you'll enter your last name, the last four digits of your eligible card and your ZIP code. From there, the offer should activate.

I'll point out that my wife easily activated the offer on her Sapphire Reserve without issues. I've made three attempts to activate the offer with my Freedom Flex card, but I keep receiving errors.

Luckily, the promotion runs through Aug. 31, so if you have problems activating as I did, there's still time to try again later.

There is a limit to this promotion, which you should know about. It's limited to $500 in purchases per card.

Bottom line

If you are eligible for this offer and make purchases at Starbucks, it's definitely worth activating the offer and using your eligible card. Until the end of the promotion, these are now the best cards to use for Starbucks purchases.

Remember that your best earning strategy will be using these cards to reload your Starbucks card balance and then paying with that card. In this way, you'll earn the bonus points from Chase and earn Starbucks stars at a higher rate.

And don't forget: If you bring your own reusable cup, Starbucks will also give you 25 bonus stars and a discount of 10 cents.
