If you’re trying to get in shape, especially while traveling, apps can be extremely helpful. When you’re on the road and not keeping a normal schedule, apps can provide workout routines, track your progress and, most of all, keep you accountable.

From a personal trainer in your back pocket to intuitive calorie counters, these are eight of the best health and fitness apps you can download today.

Freeletics

There are a few different apps that make up the Freeletics package: Bodyweight (the most popular one), Gym, Nutrition and Running. Within each, there’s a free version and a paid version.

The Bodyweight app might be the best option for travelers looking for quick, effective workouts they can do anywhere. The free version is a fitness training program with 10 to 30 minute bodyweight workouts that require no equipment. There are over 900 workout variations and they cover all your major muscle groups. It comes with tutorial videos to help you with exercises you don’t know and get the right form.

The paid version is called “The Coach” and is essentially a personalized digital trainer. It’s a program developed for you based on your age, weight, goals, abilities and availability.

Training and nutrition plans costs $3.35 a week, while training alone is $2.30. With the purchase of either one, you’ll get access to personalized training plans in the Bodyweight, Gym and Running apps. Download for free for iPhone and Android (with in-app subscriptions available).

Strava

For many runners and cyclists, finding the time to run or cycle while traveling is as essential as a morning cup of coffee. Things just aren’t right without logging a few miles, no matter how busy your schedule.

If that describes you, you might find that Strava is a must-have travel app. Strava will track your run, map your cycling route, analyze your training and let you upload and share your stats — all for free. Think: social network for runners and cyclists.

The reason it’s so great for traveling is because Strava allows you to see which routes are most popular and where the good stops are along the way. With Strava Local, travelers can see a guide to major cities around the world with data sourced from a pool of millions of users. Download for free for iPhone and Android.

Nike Training Club

Nike Training Club is basically a digital personal trainer that will travel anywhere in the world with you. Get fit on the go with more than 160 free workouts ranging from yoga to strength training.

Best of all, the app is not limited to bodyweight training: there’s a fair amount of dumbbell exercises and it’s a great option if you have access to a decent hotel gym. You’ll also get an actual workout plan, rather than just a list of workouts.

Most workouts are between 15 and 45 minutes long and you can choose between low, medium and high intensity. The workouts offer variety and are well thought out. Download for free for iPhone and Android.

The best thing about Beachbody on Demand is how it can be streamed on your iPhone, iPad, laptop, Fire TV, Roku, Chromecast or Apple TV. This instant streaming makes it a perfect choice for anyone who travels frequently and wants the flexibility to continue the same workouts at home. And believe me: the workouts are legit. Sworkit provides users with a tough workout in as little as five minutes using guided video exercises and personalized regimens based on your goals.

Aaptiv

Aaptiv has been described as the “Netflix of fitness” because of the way it allows users to stream musically-charged workout videos right to a phone, tablet or laptop. Considered a leader in the fitness and wellness space, Aaptiv is definitely an option for travelers struggling to find quality workouts on the road.

Aaptiv, which will cost you $15 per month or $100 for a whole year, provides you with a personal trainer who will voice guide you through intense workouts in strength training, yoga, distance running or interval training. Download for free for iPhone and Android.

MyFitnessPal

Numerous studies have shown the benefits of tracking your food when trying to lose weight. MyFitnessPal has a massive database of foods and meals (over 6 million) that you can input into your food diary to track your calories and macronutrient intake. That meal that you grabbed at the airport restaurant can probably be found in the app, complete with how many calories it has, and how much protein, fat and carbohydrates it contains.

The interface is simple and thoughtfully laid out for an easy user experience. And the best part of MyFitnessPal? It doesn’t cost a thing. Download for free for iPhone and Android.

Anyone can download Headspace’s “Take 10” meditation series for free, but for full access to Headspace’s content library, it costs $13 a month when billed monthly or $8 a month when billed annually. You can also purchase a lifetime license for a one-time fee of $400.
