Flights to the U.S. Virgin Islands are seeing nice discounts right now. You can book travel to picture-perfect St. Thomas for a long island weekend from a number of east coast departure cities, including Miami, New York, and Tampa. Most flights in this deal involve a brief layover, but we found a couple of nonstops at excellent prices, too.

This deal is for travel in September, so don't dawdle on booking a trip if you find an itinerary you like. These fares are also available for travel between January and June 2023, a great time to travel to the Caribbean because you'll avoid hurricane season. These are economy fares, so checking a bag will likely cost you between $30 and $35 each way.

Big thanks to Scott's Cheap Flights for alerting us to this deal. Its Premium membership is available for $49 per year, while the Elite option is available for $199 per year. The latter offers access to deals on premium economy, business- and first-class tickets.

As always, if you're flexible with your travel plans, you'll typically find better prices.

Sample flights

American has nonstop flights in late January from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Cyril E. King Airport (STT) in St. Thomas that are only $224 nonstop. It's a basic economy ticket, which means you get a free carry-on bag, but a checked bag will cost you $60 round trip.

Prices go up a bit for this same route in May, but a round-trip ticket from New York City to St. Thomas for $264 is still a good deal. Note that this itinerary has a nonstop departure flight, but the return trip has a layover in Miami.
