While most hotel programs offer lousy airline transfer rates, Starwood probably has the most lucrative - a 1:1 transfer and they kick in 5,000 extra miles for every 20,000 points transferred. So if you register for the Air Canada promotion and transferred 20,000 Starwood points, you'd end up with 30,000 Aeroplan miles:
20,000 1:1 Transfer
5,000 mile Starwood bonus
5,000 mile Aeroplan bonus

The only downside is that you can only earn the Air Canada bonus once per partner. However, you can earn the Starwood promotion an unlimited amount of times. For example, you could transfer 60,000 Starwood points to Air Canada and end up with 80,000 miles (60,000 base, plus 15,000 Starwood bonus plus 5,000 Aeroplan special bonus) - enough for a roundtrip business class ticket from North America to most cities in Western Europe. Aeroplan also offers mini-round the world trips, which can be a huge value for people who want to visit multiple continents without shelling out for a true round-the-world itinerary.

* Maximum 5,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles can be earned per participating partner loyalty program per Aeroplan Member. Aeroplan Miles per loyalty program will be issued by Aeroplan as follows: 1,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles will be deposited into the registered member's account when the total Aeroplan Miles earned by converting points from that partners program is at least 5,000 Aeroplan Miles; or 2,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles will be deposited into the registered member's account when the total Aeroplan Miles earned by converting points from that partner's program is at least 10,000 Aeroplan Miles; or 5,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles will be deposited into the registered member's account when the total Aeroplan Miles earned by converting points from that partner's program is 25,000 Aeroplan Miles or more. Bonus offer valid only on eligible post-stay conversions made with the hotel loyalty program between March 14 and April 30, 2011. Bonus miles will be credited into the member's account by Aeroplan up to eight weeks from the date the member makes his/her request with the partner.
