Circle Monday on your calendar or put a reminder on your phone. For one day only there is a very easy way to earn points that could get you a free hotel night.

While we often write about options at many of the world’s largest hotel chains, there’s reason to consider booking with an independent hotel. Preferred Hotels & Resorts, which represents hundreds of properties globally, is offering a fairly significant bonus for anyone who books a stay on Monday, June 27. There’s only one catch, and it’s really not much: you have to be a member of the company’s I Prefer loyalty program.

And yes, you can sign up now – or when you book on Monday and still get the bonus.

Members of the loyalty program who make a reservation on Monday will receive a 27,000-point bonus when they book a stay of at least one night through Dec. 31. Be sure to use the member rate.

Normally, you earn 10 points for every dollar spent at most Preferred properties. That means it would normally take you $2,700 in spending to earn the 27,000 points you can get for a single stay if you take advantage of this flash booking offer.

Considering award nights in the portfolio start as low as 15,000 points per night, depending on the property, this bonus could go a long way toward lowering your costs on a future trip.

The Preferred portfolio

With more than 650 properties, Preferred Hotels & Resorts is the world’s largest independent hotel brand, featuring five hotel collections: the Legend, LVX, Lifestyle, Connect and Preferred Residence properties which – like the major hotel chains – have different levels of luxury and amenities depending on the group. In 2019, TPG noted Preferred to be among the top three independent hotel loyalty programs worth knowing about.

Like a lot of loyalty programs, you can earn points for your stays and use them for award nights. The I Prefer program has two loyalty tiers beyond its entry-level Insider category. Members can reach Explorer and Elite status by earning 25,000 and 50,000 points respectively. A Preferred spokesperson told TPG that the bonus points earned during this promotion will not count toward elite status though.

Elite members can earn perks like early check-in and late checkout, room upgrades and bonus points, with some of these benefits enhanced as you gain higher status. As you can see, a number of benefits are available to Insider members too, though.

Monday’s promotion

Preferred is offering this promotion on Monday in celebration of “International Pineapple Day,” with the citrus fruit being a prominent part of Preferred’s branding. This promo is only available for bookings made on Monday for stays through the end of the year using the member rate. You can enroll as part of the booking process Monday and still be eligible.

The 27,000 bonus points earned will go a pretty long way toward a free night – and close to a second night in some cases. If you were to book a night for this year at a Preferred property that charges $300 a night, that will earn you 10 points per dollar spent so you would earn 3,000 points plus the 27,000-point bonus. That would get you to 30,000 points if you’re starting from zero. Those points would be enough for a free night at the Emblem Hotel in Old Town Prague.

Or, it could get you two free nights at the Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Of course, there are also plenty of properties in the portfolio that cost a whole lot more; The Metropole Hotel on the water in Venice comes in at 75,000 points per night.

Bottom line

This is one of the easier opportunities you’ll find to earn a haul of points that could get you a free night or two at one of hundreds of hotels around the world. If you’re planning a week-long vacation but don’t have enough points with a major loyalty program for the whole stay, this could be a great way to cover a day or two of your trip. Just be sure to join the program before you book on Monday.
