If you plan to rent a car by Sep. 6, Hertz will give you a free day when you go electric.

Although renting an electric car may require additional planning for your trip, it can help you save on fuel expenses. Many major hotels have installed complimentary EV chargers, so you might be overpaying for your rentals if you haven't considered electric cars.

Let's take a closer look at this offer, so you can decide if it's for you.

Here's a closer look at some of the terms which Upgraded Points reported Monday afternoon:

  • Book on hertz.com and select "Add a Discount Code" when you enter your rental details.
  • Use promotion coupon 211174 and select "Apply."
  • Minimum: two-day rental.
  • Maximum: 28-day rental.
  • Valid: select North American locations.

Naturally, you'll unlock the maximum savings on a two-day rental with one free day. Note you'll still have to pay the taxes and fees for your free day.

In our tests, you can combine this promotion with a Discount/CDP/Club Code, which you can also enter in the "Add a Discount Code" section. In this test search at Orlando International Airport (MCO), I added "5," the AAA rate for Northern California, Nevada and Utah members.

Upon enrollment, accessible through the Capital One website or mobile app, eligible cardholders will remain at that status level through the duration of the offer. Please note, enrolling through the normal Hertz Gold Plus Rewards enrollment process (e.g. at Hertz.com) will not automatically detect a cardholder as being eligible for the program and cardholders will not be automatically upgraded to the applicable status tier. One final note: Not all locations have electric cars or are participating in this offer. Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Portland International Airport (PDX) were among the major U.S. airports where we couldn't find rates with this promotion.

Bottom line

If you want to try an electric vehicle, Hertz is giving you the perfect opportunity. You'll still have to cover the taxes and fees for your free day. However, if you have an upcoming rental and are willing to go electric, now is the perfect time to reprice your trip to see if you can save with this offer.
