If you're looking to travel over the holiday period or early next year, there are currently some great discounts available on car rentals for Travel Tuesday.

Not only can you save money on the rental itself, but you could also further maximize your purchase for bonus points if you use the correct shopping portals or spend on the correct credit card.

Avis Car Rental

Until Dec. 8, 2024, you can get up to 25% off cars rented through Avis for three days or longer. You'll also get an additional free day on a future rental booking.

You can get 25% off Hertz bookings on all vehicles except large SUVs, minivans, and convertibles. The cars must be collected from airport locations and booked by Dec. 3, 2024, for pickup until Feb. 28, 2025.

Additionally, you can snag up to 35% off in select cities, including Seattle, San Francisco, Denver, Salt Lake City, New York City, and Boston, for bookings made up until Dec. 31, 2024. The discount applies to "Pay Later Base Rates."

If you're booking a car rental during the Travel Tuesday sales, there are a few ways to get even more value for your money.

Book via a shopping portal

Car rental companies frequently appear on shopping portal websites. Before booking, it's absolutely worth checking to see whether your particular rental company is also running an offer via a shopping portal.

By booking through a shopping portal, you can earn bonus points or cash back on your purchase.

Use the right credit card

Certain credit cards offer perks like free car rental insurance and elite status, the latter of which could help you receive an upgrade to a better car. And that's before you benefit from the additional bonus points they may offer on the rental.

For example, The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express both offer complimentary Hertz Gold Plus Rewards President's Circle status. (Enrollment is required.) You can also receive this perk with the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card.
