Based on a test search conducted for this story, you can actually find one-way ticket fares for even lower than the sample routes provided by Amtrak.

For example, you can book a round-trip journey from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C., in September for less than $60, with a discounted coach seat on the way there and a discounted business-class Acela seat on the return. Acela trains are faster and also have extra legroom.

This sale offers discounts of at least 30% off sale fares, noted with a green sale indicator at the top. Be sure to read the terms and conditions of your fare, as all sale fares are nonrefundable and charge a 50% cancellation fee.
