$25 Free NYC Taxi Ride + $10 Sign Up Bonus With Uber

Uber is a great app that allows you to summon private cars and taxis from your smartphone. This can come in handy when in cities where its difficult to hail a cab (ah, hem Paris), or when it's raining and finding one on the street can be a challenge (NYC). Ive used it a couple times in NYC and found it to be competitively priced and convenient- especially since it automatically bills your (points earning) credit card and gratuity is included. You don't have to argue with a driver that really wants you to pay in cash, which happens all too often in my experience.
Uber also allows you to reserve NYC taxis as well and for the next week they are giving everyone one free taxi ride, up to $25.
"How it works:
- Free TAXI week will be available in NYC starting today, Wednesday (until Wednesday September 12th).
- At the end of your ride, the driver will input the meter fare into the driver application. 20% gratuity will be automatically added to the fare.
- The free ride is up to $25. The remainder will be charged to your credit card on file.
- During Free TAXI Week, the TAXI option will only be available for one trip.- You must select TAXI icon in the app to get your free ride. Otherwise you could be requesting a luxury Uber black car - not too shabby, but not free either so be careful when requesting!"
If you don't have an Uber account, you can use my link to sign-up and after you take your first ride we both get $10 in Uber credits. I doubt the free taxi ride will trigger the $10 credit, but you never know! I'm actually in NYC this week so plan on taking advantage of this free offer- especially since the promo coincides with Fashion Week, when all of the fashionistas hog NYC taxis! Remember to store your Sapphire Preferred card as your primary card since black car/taxis count as travel and qualify for 2 points per dollar spent, plus the 7% annual dividend.
