Offer ending soon: Are you eligible for the Citi / AA Platinum Select's 80,000-mile bonus?
Editor's Note
Right now, the welcome offer on the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® (see rates and fees) matches the highest we've seen in the card's history.
New cardholders can earn a limited-time bonus of 80,000 AAdvantage miles after spending $3,500 on purchases in the first four months from account opening.
If you've been considering adding the Platinum Select to your wallet, now could be a good time to apply. But before you do, you'll want to make sure you're eligible to earn the bonus.
Citi has specific rules that can prevent you from earning a welcome bonus if you've previously held the Platinum Select or converted another Citi card into one.
Here's what you need to know about the card's bonus eligibility requirements before submitting your application.
Who is eligible for the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select's welcome bonus?
The biggest factor in determining your eligibility for the Platinum Select's welcome bonus is Citi's 48-month rule.
Under this rule, you won't be eligible for the current offer if you've received a new account bonus on a Citi / AA Platinum Select account within the past 48 months.

For example, if you previously opened the Platinum Select and earned its welcome bonus three years ago, you wouldn't qualify for another bonus on the card just yet.
The 48-month clock starts when you received the bonus, not when you opened or closed the account.
So, if you've had the Platinum Select in the past, check when your previous bonus was awarded before applying again.

What if I've converted another Citi card into the Platinum Select?
Citi's welcome bonus restrictions also apply to certain card conversions.
You won't be eligible if you converted another Citi credit card account into a Platinum Select account and earned a new account bonus on that original account within the past 48 months.
However, simply having another Citi credit card or earning a welcome bonus on a different Citi product doesn't automatically disqualify you.
The key is whether you received a Platinum Select welcome bonus within the past 48 months or received a bonus within that period on another Citi account you later converted into a Platinum Select account.

Other key eligibility criteria
As a general guideline, Citi limits applications to one card every eight days and no more than two cards within 65 days.
We recommend a credit score of at least 670, though approval depends on your overall credit profile.
Bottom line
The Citi / AA Platinum Select's limited-time 80,000-mile welcome offer is worth considering if you're looking to boost your American Airlines AAdvantage balance.
Before applying, make sure you haven't earned a Platinum Select welcome bonus in the past 48 months or converted another Citi card into a Platinum Select account under the restrictions outlined above.
If neither restriction applies to you, you may be eligible to earn the bonus, provided you're approved and meet the minimum spending requirement.
