Tokyo's Haneda Airport is Getting More US Flights
Anyone who's been to Tokyo knows that Haneda Airport (HND) is much closer to downtown than Narita International Airport (NRT).
Despite the slot restrictions currently in place at HND, airlines have been gradually increasing the number of intercontinental flights it serves. While cities like Los Angeles (LAX) and San Fransisco (SFO) on the west coast already have flights to and from both Tokyo airports, the routes will soon be expanding to several cities around the US, as well as to two airports in Canada.
On October 30, ANA will begin operating daily nonstop flights from both New York (JFK) and Chicago (ORD) to Haneda (HND).
Additionally, Delta recently beat out American and United for a daytime slot. AA had wanted a daily nonstop route from Dallas (DFW) — and United, a daily nonstop flight from Newark (EWR) — but Delta's proposal to move its daily Minneapolis (MSP) to Narita route to Haneda was the winner. Delta has not yet commented with a date that it expects to move, however.
In the meantime, for anyone wanting to plan a trip to Tokyo anytime soon, here's a list of all the flights between HND and several major North American cities.

Additionally, Delta will start service to Haneda from Minneapolis (MSP) later this year, but the timing has yet to be announced. In the coming months and years, expect service only to get more frequent, with many flights moving from Narita to Haneda as slot restrictions continue to be eased.
