Update: You can now register for Starwood's More for You promotion. Be sure to sign up by November 30 to take advantage.
Occasionally, Starwood Preferred Guest offers its members the chance to win Starpoints, gift cards and more with its — oftentimes very generous — promotions. And sometimes, these promos involve the games that members can play daily for the chance to win — like earlier this year with SPG's Get in the Game promo with Major League Baseball. And now, SPG's offering members a new game called Open More.
Members can instantly win 1,000, 5,000 or 10,000 Starpoints or one Free Night Award, and they'll be entered to win a grand prize of five Free Night Awards and 50,000 Starpoints with SPG's Open More promotion. You can enter the promo once a day through September 12, 2016 at 11:00am ET.

To enter, go to SPG's website and enter your SPG number. From there, you'll get a selection of cards — each features some facts about various Starwood properties. I scrolled through the cards a few times and selected the St. Regis card.

Unfortunately, I didn't win anything my first time around, and neither did three other TPG staffers. Although the card wasn't an instant win, each submission counts as a entry to win the grand prize. According to the terms and conditions of the promotion, winning cards are randomly selected with winning time tags, and you can only win one instant prize during the game period. The winner of the grand prize will be selected at random on or around September 20, 2016.
Even if you don't win on your first attempt, remember that you can enter to win once per day, which will also increase your chances of winning the grand prize. Even more exciting, on the top of the contest's page, SPG's alerting members of an upcoming promotion on September 12 — double Starpoints on weekday stays of two or more nights and triple Starpoints on weekends. In order to be eligible, your stay must be completed between September 12 and December 18, 2016.
To get even more valuable Starpoints, consider signing up for the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express. The card comes with a sign-up bonus of 25,000 points after you spend $3,000 in the first three months. You'll get up to 5 Starpoints per dollar spent at SPG hotels — 2 for being a cardholder and 2 or 3 that you'll receive for being an SPG member.
