Delta is offering new SkyMiles members the opportunity rack up to 40,000 SkyMiles by flying and engaging in partner activity, kind of similar to what US Airways does in their Grand Slam promo. Per the T&C this is for new members and those who have signed up within the last 30 days and "remain opted in to receive (via email) Fare Sales and Last Minute Deals, your SkyMiles Statement, Delta Partner Offers, SkyMiles Promotions, and Travel & SkyMiles Info. I tried registering my number, which I've had for years, but sadly it rejected it though a friend who signed up 3 weeks ago was able to enroll.

There are five ways to earn bonus miles with a maximum of a 40,000 mile bonus. 3/5 are easy, so getting 25,000 miles should be a piece of cake for anyone with Delta travel coming up within the next 12 months.
1) Fly (15,000 miles): 5,000 miles on the first round-trip Delta flight. 2,500 miles for each of the next four subsequent round-trip flights. Partner ad one-way flights do not count.
2) Credit Card (5,000 miles): Get the Gold Delta SkyMiles card and get an additional 5,000 miles on top of the potential 30,000 miles for the credit card sign-up bonus.
3) Lounge (10,000 miles): Join the Delta Sky Club® and earn 10,000 bonus miles with a one- or three-year membership, which start at $450 for general members and go as low as $300 for Platinum Medallions.
4) Use Miles (5,000 Miles): Simply redeem 10,000 miles on anything, flights/hotels/cars, etc and you get 5,000 back.
5) Partner Activity (5,000 miles): 500 miles for each unique partner you participate with in your first year of membership (up to 10 partner transactions).
Terms & Conditions
Eligibility: Offer valid only for new SkyMiles members joining the SkyMiles program for the first time. To participate in this offer, SkyMiles member must register online within 30 days of receipt of the offer. To qualify for this offer, members must maintain a valid email address and remain opted in to receive (via email) Fare Sales and Last Minute Deals, your SkyMiles Statement, Delta Partner Offers, SkyMiles Promotions, and Travel & SkyMiles Info. Email preferences may be updated by going to delta.com/profile. Qualifying activities must take place after enrollment and be completed within 12 months from enrollment date. Activity prior to enrollment will not qualify for bonus miles.
Bonus Offer: Get bonus miles for each qualifying activity, up to 40,000 bonus miles. These bonus miles are in addition to normal bonus miles offered by participating partners. Partner offers subject to the terms and conditions of each individual offer.
Flight Activity: Earn 5,000 bonus miles for first round-trip flight purchased and flown after enrollment on any Delta-operated and -marketed worldwide flight. Earn an additional 2,500 bonus miles for each of the next 4 round-trip flights purchased and flown. A qualifying flight includes any round-trip Delta or Delta Connection® flight. One-way flights do not qualify for this offer. Codeshare flights operated by carriers other than the Delta Connection carriers are excluded from this offer. All travel must be completed within 12 months of enrollment in the promotion. Pay with Miles tickets are not eligible for mileage accrual, Medallion Complimentary Upgrades, Medallion Qualification Segments, Medallion Qualification Miles, or Best Fare Guarantee. A maximum of 15,000 bonus miles will be awarded for flight activity.
Credit Card Partners: 5,000 bonus miles earned for signing up for the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card. Only approved accounts are eligible for bonus miles.
Delta Sky Club: Earn 10,000 bonus miles when you join the Delta Sky Club within 12 months of enrollment in the promotion. Offer only applies to one-year, three-year or joint memberships purchased at the same time as the primary membership. Mileage redemption is not an option. Delta Sky Club memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable. Membership is effective from the date of purchase and continues for the duration of the membership type purchased. Delta Sky Club facilities may be used only in conjunction with same-day ticketed air travel on any airline. Individuals must be at least 18 years of age for Club membership. Members must be at least 21 years of age to enter Clubs with a self-service bar. Amenities may vary among Club locations. All Delta Sky Club rules apply to Club membership and use. Mileage Redemption: 5,000 bonus miles will be awarded after the first SkyMiles mileage redemption of a cumulative total of 10,000 miles or greater. But, gift or transfer miles do not apply. Transfer miles for charities and other mileage transfers are not eligible.
Unique Partner Activity: Earn 500 bonus miles for each unique partner activity–up to 10 partners–for a total of up to 5,000 bonus miles. A partner activity is defined as an activity which earns 1+ miles within 12 months after enrollment. A Delta Buy Miles purchase and a partner points to miles conversion transaction are considered eligible unique activities. Converting hotel partner points to miles and a stay/activity with the same hotel partner do not count as two activities. Delta SkyMiles Credit Card is not eligible. Flight activity on partner airlines is not eligible for this promotion.
