The refreshed cards offer substantial perks and benefits that still have me coming out ahead. As with any card, you have to do the math for your own situation and decide if the new credits are ones that you will use.
Higher earning rates: 2 points per dollar spent in a number of categories (previously 1.5 points per dollar) up to $2 million of these purchases per calendar year, and 1 point per dollar after that
High-value credits unlocked when you spend $250,000 each year
Even though the annual fee is going up to $895, when you add up the thousands of dollars in annual statement credits, the value more than offsets that.
Earn as high as 175,000 bonus points on the Amex Platinum
Plus an enhanced up to $600 annual hotel credit and up to $300 entertainment credit (enrollment is required for select benefits)
You’ll still get the existing rideshare, shopping and gym benefits to enjoy as well. The value of the annual benefits on the Amex Platinum more than offset the annual fee here, too.
If you are looking for a premium travel card with unlimited lounge access, the Amex Platinum could be a great fit for you. Amex is currently offering new cardholders a way to find out your offer and see if you are eligible for offers as high as 175,000 bonus points. Points are awarded after $8,000 in spending in the first six months of card membership. Welcome offers vary, and you may not be eligible for an offer.
The Amex Membership Rewards points are worth 2 cents each, making this welcome bonus worth up to $3,500, according to TPG’s September 2025 valuations.
Be sure to request the swanky new limited-edition mirror card art when selecting either card. Even existing cardholders can log into their Amex accounts and request a replacement in the app.
Bottom line
Don’t let the annual fee scare you away from great value! Both of these cards offer lucrative earning rates, travel benefits and useful statement credits. Plus, with welcome bonuses this high, it would be a huge miss not to snag one of these juicy offers while they are available!
