People ask me all the time, “Which credit card should I get next?” But I have to say, it all depends — it’s a personal decision, but also one that hinges on many different factors.
I would tell someone to start by looking at where they spend the most — is it groceries and dining out, travel, or gas? Whatever it is, there’s likely a card that will help you earn points or miles on it. Then, what do you hope to get out of the card — elite travel perks or cash-back rewards? There are plenty of options to choose from.
So, I’m happy to share that TPG has revamped our CardMatch tool to ask all the same questions I would ask someone if they wanted a card recommendation.
The new and improved tool runs a soft credit check that does not affect your credit score* and delivers personalized tips and guidance based on your lifestyle habits and spending. We think this new tool could change the way you choose credit cards.
I’ve heard from several TPG readers that have received elevated offers on the Amex Platinum for 125,000, 150,000, and even 175,000 points (more than double the public offer) after spending $8,000 on eligible purchases on the card in the first six months of card membership. All three of these six-figure welcome bonuses offer some serious reward potential, so I recommend jumping on one of those offers if you see it.
According to TPG’s October 2024 valuations, a 175,000-point bonus would be worth a massive $3,500.
Elevated offers aren’t the only reason to check CardMatch. This is where the tool really stands out: Just answer a few simple questions — including which cards you already have and which benefits are most important to you — and the tool will create a customized recommendation based on your travel habits and lifestyle.
It doesn’t stop there. The new, enhanced features even make it possible to show you which card yields the most value year after year and whether the annual fee is worth it! This is huge, in my opinion, and such a game changer when it comes to selecting a new card. It also provides an in-depth analysis of possible redemptions and a list of categories where you’ll earn more rewards.
The detailed results can help you decide which card best suits your points and miles strategy and might be the best option to add to your wallet.
I encourage you all to check out the new and improved CardMatch tool for your personalized results. Let me know if you like it and if you are able to snag one of those amazing elevated offers.
Have a great weekend,
BK
