There’s a new lounge opening today at the world’s busiest airport — and, by all accounts, it’s a showstopper.
The American Express Centurion Lounge opened its doors today at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), a 26,000-square-foot lounge that’s the biggest yet from Amex.
What’s it like? TPG’s Zach Griff got a sneak peek at the space Tuesday, calling it the best lounge yet in Amex’s rapidly expanding portfolio of airport clubs.
The ATL Centurion Lounge is just the latest in an escalating race by credit card issuers to add posh clubs at the nation’s busiest airports.
The lounges — and access to them — are being touted by the card issuers as prime perks of their high-end travel cards. Capital One began rolling out its own swanky airport clubs in 2021, followed a year later by Chase’s first Sapphire Lounge. So far, the lounges appear to be popular with travelers.
Hawaiian Airlines is experimenting in this space too, announcing a new “private” lounge in Honolulu that can only be accessed via its new Premium Airport Service that’s aimed at smoothing travel for flyers willing to pay.
Even airline alliances are getting in on the act, with Oneworld opening its first outpost in Seouland rumors that more are on the way.
