Japan is one of my favorite countries — it's been about 18 months since my last trip, so I'm excited to be heading back this week to work on some exciting new content for TPGtv with my film crew. One of the things I've learned from the first season of TPGtv is that we need to share more points and miles tips, so that's exactly what we're going to give you going forward.

I loved visiting Kyoto on my last visit to Japan.

We planned and booked this Japan trip almost entirely on points and miles. I'll be flying in Singapore Airlines Suites on the A380 using KrisFlyer miles and staying at the Andaz Tokyo, the Park Hyatt and the Grand Hyatt by transferring my Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt Gold Passport — rates during cherry blossom season were crazy this week and we were able to snag some great deals on standard rooms by booking with points. I'm also going to be testing out my Hyatt Diamond perks during these award stays and later, staying at The St. Regis Osaka — I've never been to Osaka, so people, please feel free to share your tips!

We're going to be filming, not only at the hotels but also onboard the planes. I've never flown with ANA so I'm really excited to test out the airline's first class product on my flight back — not only that, I'll be flying home on ANA's swanky Star Wars 777.

Why We Chose It

There’s a lot to love about the Amex Gold. It’s a fan favorite thanks to its fantastic bonus-earning rates at restaurants worldwide and at U.S. supermarkets. If you’re hitting the skies soon, you’ll also earn bonus Membership Rewards points on travel. Paired with up to $120 in Uber Cash annually (for U.S. Uber rides or Uber Eats orders, card must be added to Uber app and you can redeem with any Amex card), up to $120 in annual dining statement credits to be used with eligible partners, an up to $84 Dunkin’ credit each year at U.S. Dunkin Donuts and an up to $100 Resy credit annually, there’s no reason that foodies shouldn’t add the Amex Gold to their wallet. These benefits alone are worth more than $400, which offsets the $325 annual fee on the Amex Gold card. Enrollment is required for select benefits. (Partner offer)
