Stockholm's Airport Will Get a US Preclearance Facility
Preclearance facilities are one of the best perks for traveling through select international airports back to the US. With them, you can go through the Department of Homeland Security immigration and customs process before even boarding your flight, allowing for a quick deplaning process (and seamless connections) when touching back down on US soil as a domestic passenger. Now, another foreign airport will get a US Preclearance facility — Stockholm.
A new agreement signed between the US and Swedish governments will allow for a Preclearance facility to open in Stockholm's Arlanda Airport (ARN) in summer 2018. Back in 2015, the Secretary of Homeland Security announced that it was planning to open Preclearance facilities at 10 airports around the world, one of which was ARN. Currently, there are 10 Preclearance sites at airports around the world, mostly in Canada, but also at Shannon and Dublin airports in Ireland and Abu Dhabi International Airport.
It's not yet clear if the new facility at ARN will feature Global Entry kiosks like those that are offered at Canada's Preclearance facilities. If there aren't kiosks at ARN, then Global Entry members could face longer waits as opposed to a quick return with Global Entry. However, for those without Global Entry and for citizens of other countries, being able to go through immigration prior to departure could be a great way to speed up the process, which can be pretty lengthy at some US airports.
Do you plan on taking advantage of the new Preclearance facility at Stockholm's Arlanda Airport?
