Love caffeine like you love points, miles and credit cards? You're in luck. Starbucks announced on Thursday that it will launch a co-branded Chase credit card this winter. Yes, you're about to get more rewards for your Starbucks addiction.

According to Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson, the coffee giant plans to launch a co-branded credit card with Chase and Visa this winter. Eventually, the company intends to also launch a prepaid card, but the credit card remains a priority.

At this point, there are few details known about the actual card and what it will offer consumers. The only details that Johnson released on Thursday were that it would allow Starbucks customers to earn rewards in the form of Starbucks Rewards, the company's loyalty program, for their purchases — both at the chain and elsewhere.

Johnson said that the decision to launch a credit card is connected to Starbucks' continued effort to up its loyalty game. The Starbucks Rewards program offers two levels of status: Green and Gold. Each dollar spent at Starbucks is worth 2 stars, and Gold status requires 300 stars in a year. Green members earn a free birthday reward, the ability to order ahead, free in-store refills, member events and the ability to pay by phone. Gold status offers all of the benefits as Green does with the addition of monthly double-star days, a personalized gold card and a reward for every 125 stars earned. Frequently, the Starbucks Rewards program offers a promotion that allows customers to get Gold status after just one purchase.

While details on the Starbucks credit card are pretty scarce at this point, for those who are big on loyalty — and coffee — there are plenty of possibilities. One thing to look at from a credit card maximization point of view is that the Starbucks card will have to offer cardholders enough return in order to lure them away from using a premium credit card, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card, which offers 3x points on dining. As long as the Starbucks co-branded Chase card offers cardholders a good return and valuable rewards, this card could prove to be a game changer.
