Lufthansa is now making it easier to ship your goods between the US and Europe. With its new service, myAirCargo, those wishing to ship large items overseas can save money and avoid the middleman that's often necessary to send things across the Atlantic. Lufthansa uses its cargo aircraft to make the shipments, and depending on the routing and the items involved, you can even get door-to-door service.

MyAirCargo currently offers airport-to-airport service between Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles and New York City, while across the pond, you can find it in Frankfurt and Munich. You'll also be able to get door-to-door service in more than 25 European countries, though you may have to pay extra on deliveries coming from Germany. The carrier also plans to expand myAirCargo to more destinations next year.

This could potentially be a really useful service for those looking to transport items, say, if you want to ship your motorcycle abroad so you can ride it around Europe. To find out the exact pricing, go to myaircargo.net and plug in your information — where you want to ship it from and to, the appropriate dates, dimensions, weight and the type of service you'd like.

A sample booking with myAirCargo.

I tested it out by doing a sample booking from New York (JFK) to Munich (MUC) for a motorcycle in late-August. After plugging in some standard dimensions for motorcycles and selecting the option to have it dropped off and picked up at the respective airports, I was given a quote of $1,327. Note that you won't get an exact date for pick up, instead, just a range of dates. For my sample booking, it would take 3-7 days for delivery — so this service isn't something you'll want to plan your whole trip around. Also note that when I changed my destination to Rome, Italy, the price went up to $1,687 and I only had the option to have it delivered to a business via door-to-door service, as opposed to just picking it up at the airport. In all, though, this is an interesting new service from Lufthansa, an airline that's trying to expand its cargo service to new customers.
