Epic fun! New Royal Caribbean beach getaway in Mexico will set a new bar for watery attractions
Royal Caribbean announced Wednesday it will launch its newest destination experience, Perfect Day Mexico, in 2027.
Building on the success of the line’s immersive private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, which opened in 2019, Perfect Day Mexico will join the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island (opening this December) and Royal Beach Club Cozumel along with an experience in the South Pacific (both opening in 2026) as the latest entrant in the line’s branded destination hot spots.
“Perfect Day at CocoCay is our No. 1 rated port of call,” Kara Wallace, chief marketing officer with Royal Caribbean, told TPG in an interview. “Over and above Alaska or Shanghai or Sydney. When you think about the totality of the 300-plus destinations that we go to, this experience that we've developed at Perfect Day really ranks above them all.”
Beginning in 2027, cruisers sailing aboard Royal Caribbean vessels home-porting in Texas, Florida and the Gulf Coast will have the ability to visit Perfect Day Mexico.
Why get excited about this new destination? If you're a fan of watery thrills, Perfect Day Mexico will have plenty in store.
In addition to the tallest waterslide tower in the Americas, clocking in at 170 feet, it will also have the tallest waterslide drop in the world and the largest raft slide in the world.
Cruisers can also take the plunge in the world’s first Sombrero Slide, a bowl-shaped slide patterned after Mexico’s iconic headwear.
Three hydrolaunch slides will fling guests into the air, while patrons at the nearby swim-up bar can watch all the action.
“Mexico was a perfect spot [for Perfect Day] because it has the proximity to the Gulf Coast and all of the capacity that we’ve built up out of Galveston,” said Wallace. “The combination of Perfect Day Mexico and our Royal Beach Club [in Cozumel] now means that 90% of our guests sailing in the Caribbean can enjoy one of these amazing experiences.”
Perfect Day Mexico will also feature an array of six swimming pools with a combined surface area equal to four football fields, along with the longest lazy river in the world. Hang on to your inner tubes, people.
Royal Caribbean is even placing swim-up bars along the lazy river route, meaning a cold beverage is always near at hand. Even the flotation tubes are designed with these beverages in mind, complete with built-in cup holders.
For families, Perfect Day Mexico will include the largest-ever Splashaway Bay water park constructed to date, alongside the first-ever Splashaway Cabanas designed just for families. They’re part of a total of 141 cabanas that will be placed across the seven “neighborhoods” of Perfect Day Mexico, each with its own distinct vibe and features.
“Our expansion into land really provides a holistic end-to-end vacation experience that can compete with any other vacation out there,” said Wallace. “Even for people who have experienced Perfect Day at CocoCay, there will be familiar elements, but at Perfect Day Mexico, there will be so many new things to explore. With everything that we do, we get better. We learn from our guests, we learn from the experiences that we've built. We continue to build upon that success, to create even better moments that can help our guests make great memories.”
Exact opening dates, along with itineraries, have not yet been released for Perfect Day Mexico. The new destination port of call is expected to be operational sometime in 2027, located in what is known today as Costa Maya, Mexico.
