In the competition to attract more high-value passengers, Qatar Airways is expanding its distribution of amenity kits from the premium cabins to the main cabin. The airline's launching kits for economy flyers starting this month.

The amenity kits will feature all of the standard items, including an eye mask, socks and ear plugs. The Middle Eastern carrier's also including a Miradent dental kit and lip balm from Institut Karité. The kits will be pre-packaged in bags featuring some of the 150 destinations serviced by the carrier, with designs being updated every four months.

Not to be outdone, the premium cabin amenity kits will also be refreshed with items from several luxury brands. Those flying in business class or the first-class cabin will receive bags featuring designs by Italy's Bric's and India's Nappa Dori. The new kits feature cosmetics derived from olive oil from Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio, along with pajamas from The White Company.

The new amenity kits are part of an overall update to Qatar's in-flight experience. Additional improvements slated for 2017 include a redesigned business-class seat and new children's plush toys and activity kits from Hasbro.

While the economy-class amenity kits are new to Qatar Airways, this isn't the first carrier to introduce luxury items to the main cabin. Asiana, Etihad Airways, Korean Air and Virgin Atlantic each offer amenity kits to international economy passengers.
