While Las Vegas is known for its super-luxe hotels, grand casinos and incredible nightlife scene, the city has yet to call a professional sports team its own — the T-Mobile Arena opened earlier this year, however the venue has mostly been used to hold concerts and musical competitions so far rather than play host to its very own sports team, which it hopes to do starting next year.

In hopes of changing that, the Nevada Legislature approved a plan last week that would allow for the construction of a $1.9 billion stadium — with a retractable roof and the ability to hold 65,000 fans — to be completed by 2020 as a place for the Oakland Raiders to call home. Although nothing is set in stone yet, it's possible that the Raiders may soon leave their current home in Oakland, California.

Given that Las Vegas is normally pretty packed on weekends — and that the new stadium would be situated just a few miles from the Strip — it's certainly fair to anticipate higher prices on flights and hotel stays, and for room availability to decrease during the football season's eight weeks of home games. It's also reasonable to assume street traffic would be busier, too, as more people will be coming to Vegas for sporting events on top of the normal crowds of tourists.

When booking flights to Sin City, remember to use a credit card like the Platinum Card from American Express, which lets you earn 5x points on airfare purchases. You can also earn 3x Ultimate Rewards points by paying for any other travel, hotel or dining expenses with the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
