If you travel often between New York City and Boston, you've probably come to the conclusion that it's worth paying a premium to fly in and out of LaGuardia, rather than making the trek from Midtown Manhattan to Newark or JFK. The legacy carriers recognize this too, of course, so they tack on a premium for those in-demand LGA departures. That's likely about to change — thanks to JetBlue.

America's favorite carrier just announced a handful of new routes, including daily nonstops from LaGuardia to Boston's Logan airport. And take a look at these fares:

JetBlue fares from LGA to BOS.

$49 each way! And these flights are on a Monday, one of the most popular days for business travel. Return flights are priced at $49 as well. You'll pay an extra $15 for a checked bag in each direction, but you can always check your bag for free with the phenomenal JetBlue Plus Card, which offers plenty of other great perks as well.

Now you might think that $49 is what carriers should charge for a sub-200-mile flight, but they get away with much, MUCH higher fares.

Here's an American Airlines round-trip for peak travel times on the date JetBlue's planning to launch service — October 31, 2016:

LGA to Boston for $294 on American Airlines.

If you think that's bad, check out Delta's fare:

LGA to Boston for $394 on Delta.
LGA to Boston for $392 on Delta.

These fares are fairly representative of what you'll find on peak travel days throughout the year.

For now, JetBlue's just getting its feet wet with its 100-seat Embraer E-190 operating six daily round-trip flights, but if the new flight's a hit (and how could it not be), we could see the airline upgrade the route fairly quickly.
